KIrsty Gray makes a return visit this time to rummage around in The Parish Chest on Tuesday 9th April at Bourne End Community Centre starting at 19:45 (Doors open at 19:30)
The Parish Chest held the important documents of the parish. Made of hard wood, heavy (to stop it being stolen) with metal straps and locks it contained the church silver along with such records as church warden accounts, apprentiship records, bastardy and affiliation orders, settlement and removal orders, accounts for the overseer of the poor and much more. As such it is a family historian's gold mine.
Visitors are very welcome. Entrance is free for members and £2 for non-members (or why not take out an annual membership from as little as £6).
Meetings are held in the Eghams Room at Bourne End Community Centre. Wakeman Road, Bourne End, SL8 5SX. See Southern Branch for details & charges.
