An illustrated talk about the history of public health and medieval beliefs about the causes of disease and how to relieve them. The emergence and role of the pestilence/pest/plague house will be explained and put into context.  This talk is on Wednesday7th June 2023.

 

 

Alison Wall will describe many of the pest houses she has discovered, some sadly now demolished, but quite a few still standing.The talk then includes what followed the the pest house, looking at the role of isolation hospitals, fever nurses, right up to the present day with the rapid development of Nightingale Hospitals.

The meeting will start at 7.30 pm and will be free for members, any non members who may wish to attend will be charged £2. Teas and Coffees will be available after the meeting.  We would love to see folk back together again and look forward to seeing you all at
