Family Historian (£33.40) website:

Family Tree Maker (£26.90 upwards) website:

Beginners enjoy the easy navigation and tree-building tools; more experienced users appreciate the program’s robust features and wide variety of charts and reports.

GRAMPS (free – open source) website:

Gramps is a free software project and community. We strive to produce a genealogy program that is both intuitive for hobbyists and feature-complete for professional genealogists. It is a community project, created, developed and governed by genealogists

Reunion for Mac (£62.80) website:

Reunion is a genealogy software program — a "family tree program" — for the Macintosh. Reunion is also available as a companion product on the iPhone, iPod Touch, and the iPad.

Custodian 3, the database software which helps you to store, index and organise the information you have gathered from all kinds of family history records. Use Custodian for general family history research, one-name studies, indexing projects, local history and one-place studies. Keep a computer-based version of all your paper records, documents and lists in one place and minimise endless searching for paperwork.
